You are invited to bring death into your personal awareness rather than keep death at a distance. Much of Canadian society avoids the topic and only thinks of death as an abstract concept. Your death is not abstract. It will happen. How can you prepare? What is important to you as you near the end of your life? How can you reduce stress for your survivors? Do you know what decisions might need to be made about your care? How would your health care team know what you want if you can’t communicate? Who knows what you want? It is much better to consider these things ahead of time than during a crisis, when there is no time to really think. People often expect this process to be depressing. However, many say it is deeply life-affirming and helps them live more intentionally.
