2 Solitudes of Secularism
By THE NEW ENLIGHTENMENT PROJECT
Few topics have divided Canada’s secular community as sharply as Quebec’s Bill 21, the law that bans public employees from wearing religious symbols at work. Some view it as a victory for secularism, while others see it as discrimination in disguise. With the Supreme Court set to hear the case in March 2026, the debate is heating up again.
On Sunday, January 18 at 11 a.m. ET, join Leslie Rosenblood, Secular Chair of the Centre for Inquiry Canada and host of Podcast for Inquiry, and Michel Virard, co-founder of the Association Humaniste du Québec, for a thoughtful discussion on whether Bill 21 strengthens or undermines secularism in Canada. This online event, Two Solitudes of Secularism, is hosted by The New Enlightenment Project and promises a balanced, principled exchange of ideas on one of the most complex questions in Canadian public life.
