A troubling trend is unfolding in U.S. science policy: ideology threatening to steer funding decisions rather than solid science. This article argues that recent moves, including proposed rules that de-emphasize peer review and push final grant decisions to politically appointed officials, echo historical Lysenkoism. If enacted, this could shift U.S. federal research toward political priorities instead of scientific merit, undermining credibility and progress.
