Medical misinformation from physicians can do serious harm, extending beyond their immediate patient care. A recent study in JAMA revealed that medical boards infrequently hold doctors accountable for spreading false information, with only 0.1% of disciplinary actions involving misinformation to the public. Instead, most disciplinary cases focus on direct patient misinformation and advertising issues. This gap highlights a troubling trend: when trusted medical professionals misinform the community, the consequences can be widespread and dangerous.
