Ryugu’s samples are fueling big questions about life’s ingredients. Scientists have found all five types of molecules that make up DNA and RNA in material from the asteroid Ryugu, suggesting the basic blocks of life may be more common in the solar system than we thought. The findings boost the idea that life’s building blocks could travel between worlds, hitching rides on dust and rocks, and arriving on early Earth from space. If these molecules are widespread, they could reshape our view of how and where life begins.
