Life Without Religion – Online

Live Without Religion (LWR) is a peer support group for people whose lives have been negatively impacted by religion. Nearly anyone who has left a fundamentalist or high-control religion can tell you that it leaves not only scars but sometimes open wounds. Nothing helps with the healing better than sharing your experience and discussing how to heal with others who have had a similar experience. That mutual support is what we find in LWR meetings. Blood Donor Clinic
Saturday, January 20
We are donating blood at the Canadian Blood Services Clinic (100-207 9th Ave SW). Participants need to be at the clinic at 11 am. After the donations, we will go for lunch at Bottlescrew Bill’s Pub (140 10 Ave SW).
We have reserved spaces at the blood clinic, so please only RSVP if you are committed to attending.

Our Coffee Chat is an enjoyable, unstructured afternoon conversation. Anyone can introduce an idea or ask a question, and the group will jump in and discuss it. From Faith to Freedom: My Journey from Turkey to Canada with Berke Topcuoglu
Berke Topcuoglu was born in 1991 in Istanbul, Turkey, and grew up in a conservative neighbourhood where questioning established beliefs was discouraged. Influenced by his grandmother’s teachings on critical thinking, equality, and the secular ideals of Atatürk, he developed an early interest in reason and human rights. Over time, Berke faced social and physical persecution for his nonreligious views and support for secularism, including being targeted for simply eating during Ramadan and participating in peaceful protests. His experiences during the 2013 Gezi Park movement further strengthened his commitment to democracy and free expression. After completing university studies in Turkey and the United States, Berke resettled in Canada in 2022, where he continues to advocate for freedom of thought, secular governance, and ethical civic engagement while building a new life in Alberta.
